Once again, a cast well known to Fairlight
audiences came up trumps when, according to the review (right)
everything had apparently gone pretty "pear-shaped". This does at
least why we found several copies of a script in the cupboard
relating to a play which had never been seen the Fairlight
stage.
The article mentions that this play is
frequently dominated by the character of Madam Arcati. This becomes
quite understandable when one discovers that this part was played
originally by one Margaret Rutherford ... quite a pair of shoes to
fill, but Binkie Holmes appears to have done so with assurance, as
have other members of this experienced team. |

These two picture (above and left) give an impression of the
facilities behind the stage. By comparison to what the cast had been
used to, this must have seemed quite palacial.
The picture below is not of particularly good quality, but
it does show the clean lines of the new stage, and it is interesting
to compare the set to the illustration from the script. As with
most productions, it is necessary to scale things down to fit into
a humble village hall, but, as always, the set builders did a pretty good
job. |
